VACANCY - Primary Programme Leader

Building on the success of our secondary programme, the John Taylor SCITT wishes to appoint a Primary Programme Leader to drive the development, leadership and management of a new Primary SCITT Programme. The role will start officially in March 2018. The person appointed should have experience of working in Initial Teacher Training and the capacity to undertake the role which will initially be on a 0.3fte or 0.4fte dependant on the number of trainees. Initially this will be a one year fixed term contract payable on point 3 of the leadership pay scale.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Primary Programme Leader

·        Support the SCITT Director in ensuring that the programme is compliant, meets DfE and other professional requirements and standards in line with the SCITT handbook

·        Lead a steering group in the development, design and set up of the programme

·        Lead on recruitment and selection

·        Source and manage link tutors

·        Produce all programme documentation

·        Chair the primary Management Board which meets termly

·        Produce a termly report for the SCITT Executive Board

·        Design the professional studies programme in consultation with local primary schools

·        Deliver on the Professional Studies sessions as required

·        Develop and lead on mentor training

·        Engage in quality assurance activities as directed by the SCITT Director

·        Monitor and track trainee progress, ensuring that trainees are assessed in accordance with the programme and that documentation is completed on time and to the required standard

·        Quality assure mentoring and the quality of experience of trainees in their placement school

·        Support and (in consultation with the mentor) draw up an action plan following the identification of underperformance

·        Monitor the progress of underperforming trainees against an action plan

·        Lead on self evaluation and improvement planning as it relates to the primary programme

·        Attend marketing events

·        Attend NASBTT and Ofsted conferences as required

·        Liaise with other SCITT staff as appropriate

Person specification

·        Experienced primary teacher and school leader

·        Experience in Initial Teacher Training

·        Ability to work as an effective member of a team and to promote team work at all times  

·        Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with existing and potential trainees, host school mentors and headteachers.

·        Experience of budget setting

General:

Please note that although the role commences officially in March, the successful applicant will be expected to attend meetings with partners in the autumn and spring term to begin work on the shape and design of the programme and lead on interviews when UCAS opens at the end of October
