National Leader of Education

Mike Donoghue

Appointed Headteacher at John Taylor High School in January 2010. Designated a National Leader of Education in March 2013. Oversaw the first change to 'converter' academy status of an 'outstanding' school in Staffordshire in November 2010. Worked alongside other professional colleagues - in school and beyond - towards John Taylor's designation as a National Teaching School, again one of the first in Staffordshire. We continue to improve, innovate and develop, raising standards and improving provision. Determined to ensure creativity and personalisation lie at the heart of all we do. Passionate about new technologies, and the power of social networking to discover new horizons.
As Deputy Headteacher, I led the school's conversion to 'Trust' status - again, the first in Staffordshire. Devised a curriculum model that saw significant improvement in achievement outcomes for students.
Previously, I wrote and secured funding for the first successful Business and Enterprise Specialist School bid in the Midlands. Teacher and leader in History, Humanities, former Director of Pupil Welfare and pastoral leader.
A lifelong learner, I don't wish that it was easier - I wish that I was better!
